Welcome to QSM’s “Meet our Team” feature where we introduce some of our amazing team members and highlight their interest and motivations! Today, the spotlight is on Nick Cadirov, QSM Diagnostic’s Director of Engineering.
Thanks for being here Nick! Could you please give us a brief introduction?
Hello! My name is Nick Cadirov and I am the Director of Engineering at QSM Diagnostics. I grew up in Massachusetts and studied Chemical Engineering at UMass Amherst prior to leaving for the West Coast to complete a PhD in Chemical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara. The West Coast couldn’t keep me away for too long though as I am now back in Massachusetts! As education choices may have hinted, I love solving scientific and strategic problems.
What about QSM Diagnostic’s technology excites you the most?
I am most excited about the potential to drastically improve the management of infectious diseases. Today, the management process largely follows a “guess and check” approach rather than, a much more appropriate, evidence-based approach. I believe we have the opportunity to help build structure around the testing process and take out the guesswork in diagnosing and managing infections. Building this structure will also amplify the responsible usage of antibacterial medication and slow antibacterial resistance among infection-causing bacteria.
I am confident that QSM is uniquely positioned to solve this problem given the simplicity and cost effectiveness of our technology making it practical to be used in a clinical setting and gain adoption among clinical practitioners.
What keeps you busy outside of work?
I love cooking and trying recipes from all over the world. Being in California near LA introduced me to really good Mexican and Korean food and I like cooking both.
Being from Massachusetts, I am a big New England Patriots and Boston Bruins fan. I also play ice hockey a few nights a week.
Not yet, but definitely some day in the future when I have an actual yard!
Favorite animal celebrity?
My favorite animal celebrity would have to be Nacho Cilantro.

Last question, are you a cat or a dog person?
I love all animals, but I would have to say I’m more of a dog person.
